Olga Delores Kraiter

May 25, 1924 — June 21, 2023

The family of Olga Delores (Furia) Kraiter announces with great sadness her peaceful passing at home at the age of 99 on June 21, 2023, in Klamath Falls, OR.

Born May 25, 1924, in Santa Rosa, CA, to Settima (Barbieri) and Eliseo Furia, she is predeceased by her husband, Donald J. Kraiter and daughter, Julie Harris, sister and brother-in-law Mary and Mike Rossi and brother and sister-in-law Joe and Virginia Furia.

Olga is survived by her children, Richard (Jane) Freitas of Eureka, CA, Michael Freitas of Santa Rosa, CA and Donna (Dan) Fost of Tustin, CA; grandchildren, Teena Hopkins, Kim (David) Smith, Mark Freitas; great-grandchildren, Leighton Smith, Lauren (Sutter) Laird, and Forest Hopkins; and her beloved dachshund, Mandy.

Olga was a 1942 graduate of Santa Rosa High School. She and her first husband had three children, Richard, Julie, and Michael. After their divorce, Olga met Donald J. Kraiter in Redwood City and they married October 29, 1960, in Reno, NV. They moved to the US Naval Air Station in Lemoore, CA, where their daughter, Donna, was born. They subsequently moved to Sanford, FL then Key West, FL, Guam, San Diego, CA and finally Beeville, TX.

After Don’s retirement from the Navy in 1975, they moved to Billings, MT where they lived until their final move to Klamath Falls, OR in 1992.

With her parents emigrating to the U.S. in 1922, Olga grew up as a first-generation Italian, born and raised in Santa Rosa, CA. She loved the outdoors but was a homebody at heart. She was fortunate, however, to make two trips to Italy, once in 1988 and again in 1995, visiting and conversing in Italian with several relatives of her parents in their native city of Massa-Carrara.

Olga’s later years were spent with Don hosting yearly fish fries with their neighbors in Klamath Falls, OR, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, gardening, and watching her favorite sports teams, the Golden State Warriors basketball team, and the San Francisco Giants baseball team. For her 98th birthday, her favorite Giant, Brandon Belt, even sent her a signed bat and baseball.

Although no public services are scheduled at this time, a Celebration of Life for Olga will be planned at a later date.
