Longtime Merrill resident Douglas "Doug" Bragg, 80, passed away peacefully at his home on June 17, 2021. Doug was born August 14, 1940, in Forest Grove, OR to Thomas and Blanche (Stockton) Bragg. His favorite childhood memory was with his parents on their ranch in Fallon, Nevada. When he was 12 years old, his family moved to Corning, CA. Doug was a proud Corning Cardinal, lettering in baseball, basketball, and football all four years. At 15 years old, he became the proud owner of the coolest car in town, a persimmon 1956 Mercury Montclair. On June 29, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Edith "Edie" Eggers. Doug and Edie have two daughters, born 1962 & 1966. They spent four years with Doug’s parents working a ranch in Adin, CA before settling on their current 25-acre property outside of Merrill. The idea was to make a living around cattle, until he picked up a hammer in 1964. He built a hay-shed on his property with his soon to be business partner, Barney Hoyt; Bragg and Hoyt Construction. Bragg Construction, with Doug hammering on built over 1500 structures in the Klamath Basin, Langell Valley, Butte Valley, Big Valley, Scott’s Valley and beyond. Doug was a self-employed contractor for 55 years, retiring June, 2019. Most importantly, he was a loyal son, faithful husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and adored great-grandfather.
