Richard Brian
Cleveland
August 18, 1939 – May 12, 2026
Richard "Dick" Brian Cleveland of Klamath Falls, Oregon passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 following a brief illness. He will be remembered as a devoted outdoorsman, craftsman, husband, father, and lifelong steward of the forests and wild places he loved.
Dick was born on August 18, 1939 in Norway, Maine to John Wesley and Margaret Cleveland (née Noble). He was raised in the home his father built by hand and spent a happy childhood surrounded by extended family, fishing the waters of Lake Pennesseewassee and developing a devotion to the outdoors that would shape the rest of his life.
Dick attended the University of Maine before making his way west to begin a long and meaningful career with the United States Forest Service. Straight out of college, he joined the Goosenest District in Mount Hebron, California, beginning decades of work across the Pacific Northwest including time in McCloud, Ripplebrook, Mount Hood, Portland, Prineville, and Klamath Falls.
Hunting, boating, fishing, horses, and the wilderness were the foundation of Dick's life. He pack hunted with his son and friends for elk in Hell's Canyon every season for decades, and after he retired from the Winema National Forest in 1995.
Dick married Lorena Corzatt in 1995, who embodied the love of outdoors and animals as much as him. They enjoyed many years of outdoor adventure, camping, hiking and canoeing. Together, they built fine wooden canoes and paddles as Sky Lakes Canoe & Paddle Co. and restored 1930s-era Old Town canoes, handcrafted not far from Dick's birthplace in Maine.
Dick proudly embraced his New England roots. He appreciated "real" baked beans, lobster, LL Bean, old fishing boats, honest craftsmanship, and hard work well done. Gentle and kindhearted, he had a lifelong love for animals, especially horses and the many rescued cats and dogs that found their way into his home over the years.
Dick found great joy in watching his family grow through the generations. He is survived by his wife and partner of 30 years, Lorena Corzatt; his beloved children, Stevie Lee Saleem, John Edward Cleveland (Sheri), step-daughter Jennifer Giles and step-son Reid Corzatt (Danielle); four grandchildren, Alexandria and Ramsey Saleem and Jahnie Hellickson (Chase) and Justin Cleveland; four great-grandchildren, Amenti and Akasha, Lainey and Laramie; and a wide circle of extended family and friends who loved him.
A gathering in his honor will be held at his home, 2325 Van Camp St., Klamath Falls on June 27 at 2 pm. It is very informal and will be a time to share stories. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a gift to National Mill Dog Rescue or the Pacific Northwest Forest Service Association. Or plant a ponderosa pine in his honor.
